The Pythian - 135 West 70th Street
The Pythian is one of New York City's most colorful and richly embellished terracotta buildings. Located in the entertaining Upper West Side with Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle, Central Park and some great shopping as well.
Condominium buyers appreciate the features of The Pythian
The Pythian has numerous duplexes with soaring ceilings, hardwood floors and many terraces. Those apartments that have been renovated have gourmet kitchens and luxurious baths. With vaulted ceilings, there comes double height windows as well. This lets in a tremendous amount of light and open city views facing south, and townhouse views facing north.
The building also has a series of setbacks cascading upward in a wedding cake fashion which also creates the numerous terraces that adorn the building.
The restaurants on The Upper West Side near 135 west 70th street are also hard to beat, with Jean Georges, Avoce, Picholine, and a host of other spectacular places to dine.
The Pythian's original designer and renovation architect
Designed by Thomas Lamb back in 1926, this classic building was converted to condominium in 1983 and contains about 84 apartments some of which have been combined.
The architect on the conversion and restoration was David Gura, who had multiple windows installed in the originally mostly windowless building. As per David, the building was originally meant to be a lodge of the Knights and Phthias and as a result housed many windowless lodge halls.
