The Ansonia - 2109 Broadway
This beautiful and ornate prewar work of art is also a luxury prewar condominium on the Upper West Side. Originally designed by French architect Dubois, this Baux arts style of architecture is highly reminiscent of buildings in Europe and not so much the United States-which makes it all the more beautiful. The builder of this elaborate masterpiece was a Mr. Stokes, who commissioned the French architect Dubois and had this building built betwen 1899 and 1904 as an apartment- hotel.
The Ansonia was, and is one of the most intricate and elborate buildings in NYC today and would probably be too exorbitant to build in today's economy. With it's unique round living rooms, high beamed ceilings, ornate moldings, the Ansonia is truly a work of art. Since the conversion, many of the apartments have also been combined to create even more spectacular residences.
